From the earliest cave paintings to the modern day, the art world offers us many paintings of spiritual significance, which show a glow of light around its subjects. It is this glow which is known as the ‘aura’ and represents the energy field which can be seen in every living being. Spiritualists may also refer to it as the ‘etheric envelope’ or ‘auric field.’
Every living person has an aura which reflects the state of the body and the mind. It is multi - layered and multicolored. The initial layers are related to the physical body whilst the outer layers are part of the spirit body. When the physical body dies, we shed the inner layers only, whilst the outer etheric layers remain and are our part of our spirit being.
Many cultures and religions for over thousands of years have had a knowledge and understanding of the aura. Some believe there are seven layers others 13 and it’s likely there are variations on the same beliefs. However, what they do have in common is the understanding that the aura is a part of the spirit of the person and is dynamic in nature.
Contained within the aura are the memories, experiences, knowledge and well bring of the person. There is a great deal of information which can be understood from the aura and someone capable of ‘tuning’ into it can glean a great deal. This is why it is important not to shake hands with people, or walk amongst the congregation before a demonstration of Mediumship. It doesn’t prove evidence of an afterlife if the aura of a living person has been read - even inadvertently.
The initial layers of the aura which are concerned with the physical being, reflect the state of the emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual health of the person. The first layer usually extends to approximately two inches away from the body and signifies the physical health of the person. The next layers are related to the emotional and intellectual conditions of the person and can usually extend to a couple of feet away from the physical body (although in some cases even further). The more expansive the aura is, the more in harmony the person is with their own spiritual energy. This is reflected further by the colours present in the aura and is not simply seen as a glow of light around a person. The brightness of the colours is also important. Dullness signifies illness or imbalances of mental, physical or spiritual health - whilst radiance and intensity is regarded as positive. And each colour has a meaning too, although opinions on the meanings of colours differ and may be due to an individual understanding.
The aura may be visible to people, particularly those who have developed their psychic ability to a high degree. Although some psychic and mediums do not see auras at all, but rather sense them. I once had it explained to me many years ago that when you feel someone is ‘in your personal space’ its because their aura is too close to yours and this is why people who are known to us and we feel very comfortable with, are more welcome at a closer distance than others - we know and welcome their auras.
The aura can also be viewed by Kirlian photography, which captures the colours of the auric field by representation of their frequency which is recorded onto photographic film. This can be proved by photographing the aura of someone and then comparing it with their aura when healing, meditating or engaging in more spiritual activity. The results will show how dynamic the colours are and how expansive the aura becomes as we change our mental energies.
We know from many spirit communicators that our ability to communicate with the spirit world is based on ‘vibrations.’ The frequency of these vibrations are important too and that Spirit beings exist in a state of faster and higher vibrations (or frequencies) than those of us who have a physical body. The aura is a reflection of these vibratory patterns and colours and each vibration has a frequency. A close match to the frequencies within the aura to the spirit communicator’s frequency makes for clear spirit communication.
The importance of the aura is difficult to understand at times. A recent web search came up with an ‘auric doctor’ who claims to heal tears within the aura and restore people to good health. This doesn’t make sense to me if the aura is a representation of a person’s health, emotions and intellect. Surely the person needs healing first in order to restore the aura, rather than the other way around?
Being able to view auras may not be evidential either, unless a person can see their own, or a group of people can all see the same auric qualities. And how accurate is the Kirlian camera when photographing the aura, when compared to the account of someone who claims to be able to see it? There are many questions and perhaps the ability to see auras is subjective rather than objective.
However, we do know from spirit communicators and from psychic exercises that working with the aura of someone yields a lot of information and communication.
With the mental phenomena of trance, the spirit communicator is encouraged to enter the aura of the medium, from where they can influence which thoughts and words to bring forth. It appears that by a blending of the auric energy - between a spirit and a medium, the thought vibrations can influence the mind of the medium and bring forth spirit communication. The closer the match to emotions and intellect between the two, the more accurate the message will be. This can be shown that someone with a great intellectual capacity will have a large aura and is capable of bringing forth communication of a philosophical nature. Whereas a poor intellectual capacity is unlikely to match their auric vibrations with that of the discarnate spirit and great philosophy is unlikely. It would appear that ‘like attracts like’ when we are considering the role of the aura and spirit communication.
Another area where the aura is important in spirit communication is in circle or workshop development. That is to say, when working with the ‘spirit’ of physical beings and not the spirit world. In circle development many psychic exercises are based on reading auras. Development of psychic faculties is essential to Mediumship and auric exercises are useful. A particular favorite of mine is getting novices to swap chairs and sense the energy they are sitting in. This often yields excellent results because they have entered the residual auric energy of the other person. In this way, the aura is important in the ‘spirit’ communication between living people.
Whether through incarnate or discarnate spirit communication, the aura is fundamental and a good understanding of it could help us to realise our own capacity to spirit communication.
